Factory Is Now Worth $5 Billion

The enterprise coding-agent company raised $200M and tripled its price to $5B. The product pitch is not one more chat. It is a software factory you can put behind a firewall.

Five months after a $1.5 billion round, Factory just tripled the sticker.

On 15 September 2026 co-founders Matan Grinberg and Eno Reyes said the company raised $200 million at a $5 billion valuation. Total funding is now over $400 million. Backers named in the post: Blackstone, Khosla Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, Evantic Capital, Sound Ventures, NEA, Mantis VC, and Clearlake. A Business Wire version also lists angels Nico Rosberg, Brad Gerstner, and Marc Benioff.

What they sell that a chat window does not

Factory's line is "software factories," not a coding copilot. In April, Factory 2.0 moved the platform from single agents to a system that is supposed to cover the whole software lifecycle: code, review, security, tests, docs, incidents. Factory Router picks a model per task and, they say, cuts token spend by more than 60 percent without dropping frontier quality. Agent Effectiveness is the ROI panel for the buyer who has to explain the bill.

The control story is the enterprise close: cloud, on-prem, or fully air-gapped. You pick the models. You pick where it runs. They are chasing FedRAMP for government. Named logos in the post: Nvidia, Blackstone, Royal Bank of Canada, Palo Alto Networks, Adobe, and T-Mobile. "Hundreds of thousands of developers" is a vendor count. Treat it as one.

Why the number jumped

Coding agents are the most adopted generative-AI workflow in companies. Cognition's Devin round, CodeRabbit's $143 million in August, Cursor's Projects launch, and SpaceX's Cursor deal all sit in the same budget conversation. Factory is pricing itself as the governed system of record for that budget, not as another tab.

Grinberg's quote is the TAM: large enterprises moving from individual coding agents to a factory that the whole software company runs on. That is Hang Ten's outer-loop story with a different buyer — the VP of engineering who needs air-gap and a router, not a semantic layer over SAP.

What to ask before you care

Ask where the 60 percent token cut was measured. Ask whether Agent Effectiveness is a dashboard or a contract metric. Ask who owns the merge when the factory opens the PR. $5 billion is the market saying enterprises will pay for a single governed agent platform. It is not proof that yours should be Factory. If you already run Cursor Projects for long-lived work, Factory is competing for the same queue with a different deployment story.
