Copilot Just Killed Four Models
Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini 3.6 Flash, Kimi K2.7 Code, and Claude Opus 4.7 are gone across Chat, edits, agent, and completions. Check your policy list.

If your agent.yml still names Claude Opus 4.7, it is already talking to a ghost.
On 2 October 2026 GitHub deprecated four models across every Copilot surface: Chat, inline edits, ask and agent modes, and code completions. Gemini 3.5 Flash and 3.6 Flash go to Gemini 3.8 Flash. Kimi K2.7 Code goes to Kimi K3. Claude Opus 4.7 goes to Claude Opus 5.5. No action is required to remove the old IDs. Action is required if your enterprise policy never enabled the replacements.

This is the second shoe
GitHub warned on 3 September. A separate mid-October pass, announced 18 September, still hangs over Gemini 3.7 Flash, GPT-5.5, GPT-5.4, GPT-5.4 mini, GPT-5 mini, and Grok 4.5, with a 19 October date. Today was the October 2 cut. Next is the 19th. If your default-model toggle is off, users will stare at an empty picker until an admin ticks the new boxes.
The practical move is a one-line inventory: grep the repo for the four retired names, update VS Code profiles, and confirm the Copilot Chat model selector on github.com shows 3.8 Flash, Kimi K3, and Opus 5.5. Then put a calendar reminder for the 19th. Copilot's model catalog is now a rotating SKU list. Treat pinned model IDs like pinned Action versions: they expire.
